A Railroad Town on the State Line
Spray Foam Insulation in Guthrie works with homes in a town built by the railroad. Guthrie sits in Todd County right at the Tennessee line. In the 1840s the site was the Pondy Woods stagecoach stop, and the town was later named for James Guthrie, president of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad when it was founded in 1867. Guthrie was incorporated in 1876, and it is the birthplace of Robert Penn Warren, the first U.S. Poet Laureate.
Older housing
Railroad-era towns have older frame houses on crawl spaces, often with uninsulated walls and attics that have been topped up only once or twice. Those houses respond well to the basics: sealed crawl space or floor insulation, foam at the rim joist, and sealed attic with blown-in on top.
Revitalization
In 2006 the city partnered with the University of Kentucky College of Design on a plan for the town's future, starting with the Guthrie Transportation Museum project. Owners fixing up older homes downtown often include insulation in their plans; it is easiest to do walls while they are open.
Farm country around town
Todd County is farm country, and properties outside Guthrie often have barns, steel sheds and shops. We price these separately from the house.
Climate
OpenEI lists Todd County in Climate Zone 4A, like Christian County. Humid summers and cold winter snaps both make air sealing and crawl space moisture control worthwhile.
