Homes in a Railroad and Coal Town
Spray Foam Insulation in Nortonville works with homes from a town built on railroads and coal. Nortonville was incorporated in 1873 and named for Eckstein Norton, who helped build the Elizabethtown and Paducah Railroad and later became president of the L&N. The town grew up around the junction of the Illinois Central and L&N lines, and after 1902 the Nortonville Coal Company opened a shaft mine here.
How the town developed
Nortonville got its first water system in 1936, paved its streets in 1956 and built a central sewer system in the late 1970s. Homes here span all of those eras, from early 1900s houses to newer ones built after the sewer system opened the way for growth.
Older houses
Houses from the railroad and mining years were built simply, usually on crawl spaces, with little or no insulation. They respond quickly to crawl space sealing, foam at the rim joist and a sealed, well-insulated attic.
Climate
Nortonville sits at about 404 feet in Hopkins County, which OpenEI lists in Climate Zone 4A. The humid summers and cold snaps of western Kentucky apply here too.
